Personally Adrian, I would put it to them respectfully but by still making your point clear, e.g. ‘sorry, but I just don’t like to use social media, if that’s alright?’.

If you don’t like people snooping and gossiping, and a lot of people do it, then don’t mention that it’s because of gossip. Just say you don’t like to use it.

They should respect your stance for not using social media, but you’d have to put it to them kindly.

In the book How To Win Friends And Influence People, one of the advice is that you should sympathise with other people’s stances or opinions. But I think you should use this for them. When they ask for your social media, just mention to them that you understand why they would want to keep in touch with you through it, but you just don’t want to use it.

That should hopefully work.
